The school was awarded the Green Flag in February 2010.

The Green School’s Student Committee, under the direction of teachers Ms. Comyns, Mr. Kennedy, Mrs. Sweeney and Mr. Murtagh, and with the assistance of caretaking staff Brendan Greene and Fiona Grimes, undertook a number of initiatives over the period of a year and a half, to make the school more environmentally friendly.

Initiatives included:

• Battery and mobile phone recycling
• Paper recycling
• Waste reduction in the school
• Regular clean up of school grounds
• Visiting speakers
• Trip to recycling centre
• Posters and Awareness material
