A word from Mr. Paddy O’Rourke – Chairperson of the Board of Management
Boards of Management have been in place at Vocational Schools for some years now, having been established by the VECs (Vocational Educational Committee) now known as ETBs (Education Training Boards). The board of management is made up of four ETB representatives, two teacher representatives, two parent representatives, with the school’s principal acting as recording secretary. Meeting once during each school term and on any other occasion when necessary, the board is chaired by local Cllr Paddy O’Rourke, himself a past pupil with children currently enrolled.
The structure of the board provides an opportunity for parents and teaching staff to bring issues forward for consideration. The school year 2014-15 has been a particularly busy year for the Board of Management with a very substantial building extension being completed which provided a new Art room, two general classrooms along with an extension to the Home Economics room, and a new toilet block and enhanced parking facilities.
The Board of Management, working with teachers, staff and parents, seek to assist in the delivery of a modern and caring system of education which meets the needs of the students.
